Visible (400nm - 800nm)

For MARUBENI-OPTO™, the terms “light” and “visible radiation (VIS)” refer to wavelengths from 400 nm to 800 nm, which are perceptible to the human eye. Compound semiconductors have enabled a wide spectrum of emissions. The primary high-brightness compound-semiconductor technologies used to create various colors include:

  • AlInGaN: Violet, Royal Blue, Blue, Cyan (Blue-Green), Green

  • AlInGaP: Yellow-Green (YG), Yellow, Amber, Orange, Portland Orange, Red

  • AlGaAs: Red, Ruby Red, Deep Red, Near-IR

These devices are measured and binned using photometric test methods that specify the dominant wavelength (λD). The near-UV and near-IR LED types we offer are included in the UV and IR sections of this website, respectively. For example, an LED with a photometric dominant wavelength (λD) nominal of 410 nm (range 400–420 nm) has a radiometric peak emission wavelength (λp) nominal of 400 nm (range 395–405 nm).

Epitaxial wafers, fabricated known-good die (KGD), packaged LEDs, COB/DOB compact micro-arrays (CMA™), and modules are all offered as standard products by MARUBENI-OPTO™. Packaged LEDs include molded through-hole (PTH) lamps (3 mm, 5 mm), metal TO-header lamps, and SMDs (leadless ceramic, PLCC, power packages).

Tech-LED Visible LEDs – Full Spectrum Solutions

Our Visible LED category encompasses all LEDs that emit in the visible spectrum from approximately 400 nm (deep violet) through 800 nm (deep red). This includes ultraviolet-adjacent violet, the full rainbow of colors (blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, red), as well as white LEDs (typically blue or UV chips with phosphor). Tech-LED provides visible LEDs in numerous package styles – from classic through-hole lamps (diffused or clear) to modern SMD packages and high-power COBs. We cover standard discrete indicator LEDs, high-brightness illumination LEDs, and specialty narrow-wavelength LEDs for sensing or scientific use. Our visible LEDs are built on proven material systems: InGaN for violet, blue, green; AlInGaP for yellow, orange, red; plus custom phosphor blends for white. With over 50 distinct peak wavelengths available (in 5–10 nm increments or specific standardized colors), designers can find the exact visible LED to meet their requirements.

Key Features of Tech-LED Visible LEDs

Full Spectrum of Colors & Shades

We supply all the standard LED colors: royal blue (~450 nm), blue (~470 nm), true green (~525 nm), yellow (~590 nm), amber (~605 nm), red-orange (~620 nm), and deep red (~650–660 nm). Additionally, we offer less common wavelengths like violet (400–420 nm), cyan (~500 nm), emerald green (~555 nm), and far-red (~700–740 nm) for horticulture. Our catalog lists ranges (e.g. 430–690 nm visible) with specific peaks available. We tightly bin colors for consistency—ensuring multiple LEDs show the same shade. For white LEDs, we provide cool, neutral, and warm CCTs, with high CRI options for accurate color rendering.

    High Brightness and Efficiency

Our visible LEDs achieve high luminous efficacy, with many mid- to high-power products exceeding 100–150 lm/W. A 1 W cool white LED can output ~130 lm, while our 660 nm deep red LEDs for horticulture deliver high radiant efficiency. Through optimized chip architectures and reflector/lens packages, we maximize external quantum efficiency. For example, 5 mm through-hole LEDs concentrate light into narrow beams for visibility in daylight, while SMD backlighting LEDs spread light uniformly for displays. High efficiency reduces heat and extends battery life in portable devices.

    Various Package Options

We offer visible LEDs in every major package format. Through-hole LEDs (3 mm, 5 mm, 10 mm) come in diffused or water-clear lenses. Surface-mount LEDs range from ultra-compact 0201/0402 chips for indicators, to PLCC packages (3528, 5050, etc.) and ceramic high-power packages (3535, 7070) for illumination. Chip-On-Board (COB) LEDs are available in white and multi-color arrays. We also supply alphanumeric and dot-matrix LED displays. All parts are RoHS compliant, supplied in tape-and-reel, and compatible with reflow soldering.

    Specialized Visible LEDs

We provide LEDs for niche applications, including photodetector-calibrated LEDs with tight wavelength tolerance, high-temperature LEDs for automotive (125 °C operation), and low-VF LEDs for low-voltage circuits. Point-source metal-can LEDs (e.g., TO-18 635 nm) are used for fiber coupling and precision optics. We also offer micro-LED chips in visible wavelengths for emerging microdisplays. Other options include bulb-replacement LEDs, visible-light LED arrays for machine vision, and custom narrow-angle emitters. If a specific combination is needed, we can often build it from our deep LED catalog.

    Quality and Consistency

All visible LEDs undergo strict binning for color, flux, and forward voltage. This ensures repeat orders match in shade and brightness—essential for displays and signage. Our manufacturing employs SPC controls to keep wavelength and flux stable. Using gold wire bonding, high-purity metals, and silicone encapsulants, we deliver LEDs with MTBFs in the hundreds of thousands of hours. Automotive-grade LEDs undergo AEC-Q102 testing for heat, humidity, and shock. Our visible LEDs are trusted worldwide for long-term reliability.

    Applications of Visible LEDs

    Electronic Indicators and Displays

Visible LEDs serve as power/status indicators, appliance displays, and notification lights. We supply millions of 3 mm green and red LEDs for consumer appliances, bi-color red/green indicators for telecom, and 7-segment numeric displays for stereos and appliances. Their low power and long life make them ideal for always-on indicators.

    General Lighting and Illumination

White LEDs and COBs power flashlights, bulbs, downlights, streetlights, and automotive headlights. Our high-brightness reds serve in tail lights and brake lights, amber in turn signals, and whites in DRLs and headlights. Specialty colors (amber, cyan) are used in stage and architectural lighting. Automotive-grade visible LEDs meet rigorous OEM standards for vibration, heat, and safety.
